The letters submitted for the West Prince Graphic’s Mother’s Day contest are in. A winner has been chosen. Heidi White was chosen to receive the Mother’s Day gifts, thanks to the letter written and submitted by her daughter Amber White. The Westisle Wolverines A division rugby team played both their third and fourth games of the season Wednesday, May 8, against Three Oaks Seniors High. The first game was a 5-5 tie, but Westisle defeated Tosh 17-5 in the second game. Shown making a tackle during the first game is Westisle player Cameron Paynter. Westisle Coach Thomas Collins wanted to acknowledge player Bennett Raynor for making two tries with one conversion in the second game. Westisle will play Colonel Gray High School on Wednesday, May 15 (away game), and Charlottetown Rural High School on Friday, May 17 (home game). ...

Marcie McRae plays for the Westisle badminton team. Her coach chose her as player of the week because of her hard work and dedication at practice. In the recent zones competitions, she placed first in singles and in mixed divisions, earning herself a place at provincials. By Zack Metcalfe zack@peicanada.com The lobster fishermen of Hardy's Channel, Northport and Jude's Point harbours have maintained their strike against low lobster prices since Thursday, May 9, and in follow up meetings Friday evening, it was decided the strike would continue in all three harbours until at least Monday, May 13. Northport and Hardy's Channel harbours will be having additional meetings prior to Monday, to vote on whether or not the strike will continue. Jude's Point and Seacow Pond harbours both plan to commence fishing operations Monday without additional meetings. ...

The Westisle Drama club has been working hard on perfecting the production of Grease which will be presented May 13,15 and 17 in Westisle Theatre at Westisle Composite High School. As many as 25 cast and crew have been spending the last several weeks on stage in full costume practicing their lines. It was decided shortly after 7pm May 8, fishermen will tie up their boats for the entire day May 9 – Island-wide. “First time I have ever seen a shut down for lobster since I started fishing 37 years ago,” said president for the Western Gulf Fishermen’s Association Craig Avery.
